چکیده

HE RENEWED INTEREST in magnesium alterations in human disease states has originated a search for simpler and more accurate analytic technics for the determination of magnesium in body fluids. Several recent methods are based upon the chelating reaction of ethylenediamine tetraacetic acid (EDTA). A procedure for the determination of magnesium in erythrocytes (1) involving spectrophotometric titration of the iron-free ifitrates of blood was developed in our laboratory by adaptation of one of these technics (2). The present paper deals with a new method for the determination of urinary magnesium and calcium using a technic that by overcoming the interference of inorganic phosphate allows the use of the reagents and titration procedure of the previous methods (1, 2), thus offering a very convenient uniformity of methodology for plasma, erythrocytes, and urine.

Determination of calcium and magnesium in serum, urine, diet, and stool by atomic absorption spectrophotometry.

ATOMIC ABSORPTION was developed by Walsh and his associates (1) as an analytical technic applicable to the determination of many metals. Willis (2-4) found that this technic was applicable in particular to tile determination of calcium and magnesium in Serum and urine. These published results indicated that atomic absorption spectrophotometry would be a simple, rapid, and practical method for t...

A method for the colorimetric determination of calcium and magnesium in small amounts of urine, stool, and food.

This report presents a method for the quantitative determination of magnesium and calcium in a single specimen of urine, stool, and food by formation and calorimetric determination of their respective phosphates. The method makes use of some of the principles advanced by Roe and Kahn (1) for determination of serum calcium, and by Denis (2) for serum magnesium. Phosphorus determinations are perf...

ESTIMATION OF POTASSIUM, CALCIUM, AND MAGNESIUM IN BLOOD AND MYOCARDIAL TISSUE, AND DIAGNOSTIC IMPORTANCE OF URINARY MAGNESIUM EXCRETION IN EXPERIMENTALLY-INDUCED MYOCARDIAL INJURY

The results obtained in the present investigations point to a definite correlation between the onset of myocardial injury, electrocardiographic changes and biochemical changes. Changes in the electrocardiogram and elevated serum levels were paralleled by an increased excretion of magnesium in urine as early as one hour. Serum calcium and serum potassium levels did not show any significant ...

Determination of calcium in urine by the chloranilate method.

Evidence is presented that the colorimetric chloranilate calcium method can be accurately applied to urine provided that elimination of interfering substances, which include magnesium, is performed prior to the determination. Isolation of calcium as the oxalate, followed by perchioric acid digestion, has been shown to be an acceptable method whereby urinary calcium can be put in a suitable stat...

THE EFFECT OF URINE AND BLOOD METABOLIC RISK FACTORS ON CALCIUM STONE FORMATION

In spite of vast improvements in urinary stone treatment (ESWL, PNL, ureteroscopy, etc.), metabolic workup concerning the existence of stone forming risk factors are of great importance and can lead to control and even prevention of urinary stone formation in these patients. In this analytical case-control study performed on 266 persons [110 normal persons (56 males and 54 females), 76 pat...

Simultaneous determination of the most abundant cationic species in human urine by capillary isotachophoresis.

Analytical isotachophoresis has proved to be an excellent method for separation and quantitative measurement of ionic species in biologic fluids. Isotachophoretic separation of cations in presence of a complex-forming nonionic detergent (e.g. Triton X-100) in 98% methanol enables simultaneous quantitative determination of ammonium, sodium, potassium, magnesium, and protonated creatinine in urin...
